50th day of school
This last Wednesday was our 50th day of school. We have never done anything before for the 50th day, just 100th. We decided this year to do a 50's day and have 50 related activities throughout the day and people could dress in thier 50's clothes. The kids had a great time and really enjoyed it, we will definetly do it again!
We told the kids to dress 50's style and I did have a few come in costume, they were so cute!
I found a great powerpoint online about the 50's and showed it to the kids. It showed many toys that were popular at the time. I then had the kids graph thier favorite toy and write about it. We made a classbook of our favorite 50's toy.
Our 5th grade reading buddies came down and showed the kids the brochures they had made of the 50 states, we then challenged them to a bubble gum bubble blowing contest.
The kids really enjoyed the day learning about the 50's, dancing to the music, bubble gum, hula hoops and of course the floats!
I will have links and other info in the next post.

I played fifties music throughout the day and the kids loved it! Many of them had heard "Lollipop" before and would sing along.
We got hula hoops from P.E. and had some fun with them.

For math we made patterns using black and pink, "50's colors."
At the end of the day all the classes came down to the gym for some Root Beer floats.

The kids were obsessed with my poodle skirt, they thought it was so neat that it was long and full. (I wore a crinoline under mine.) I showed them it was a circle and they loved the twirling, the girls and I were twirling all day!
Here I am in my poodle skirt. (Sorry no twirling pictures :)I will have links and other info in the next post.
